A low sheet price does not always mean a low cost per shirt. The useful comparison is the total order cost divided by the number of transfers you can actually press, after allowing for spacing, test presses and mistakes.
A worked example
Suppose a sheet costs $40, shipping allocated to it is $10, and you fit 20 designs on the sheet. If two transfers are used for tests or lost to mistakes, the cost is $50 ÷ 18 = $2.78 per usable transfer. These are illustrative figures, not Formulated Prints prices; taxes, currency, apparel and labor are excluded.
If a second option costs $60 delivered and produces 24 usable transfers, its cost is $2.50 each. Compare equivalent artwork sizes and delivery requirements before choosing. A sheet with more designs is only cheaper per print if those designs are usable for your order.
Estimate how many designs fit
Measure the printable width and length, subtract any supplier margins, and place the actual design rectangles with the required space between them. Rotating designs can improve fit if their orientation allows it. Irregular outlines and artwork with transparent padding can make area-only estimates unreliable; preview the layout before checkout.
For example, a 20 by 100 inch usable area has 2,000 square inches. Twenty designs measuring 8 by 10 inches occupy 1,600 square inches before spacing. This is only an area check: it does not prove that all 20 rectangles can be arranged on the sheet.
Costs to include before ordering
Add the sheet price, shipping allocated to the order, applicable taxes and fees, and any artwork preparation charges. Separately calculate garment blanks, labor and packaging if you need the finished product cost. Record actual test and reprint quantities so the next estimate reflects your own workflow.

What should you track after the first order?
Record the final paid amount, artwork sizes, the number of usable transfers, test presses and defects. Divide the total by usable transfers and compare it with your estimate. This gives you a repeatable baseline for future jobs without relying on an assumed nesting percentage.
